The symphony discussed in our text and online, Eroica, is divided into four movements. Carefully read the description of Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony found on pages 242 - 247 in your text. Choose one movement to discuss as you answer the following numbered questions below (1-4.) Number your discussion answers 1, 2, 3, and 4. 1. Which one of the four movements did you choose? Why? 2. What types of emotions were evoked as you listened? 3. What are some of the unique characteristics of this movement that specifically revealed feelings/emotions? 4. 1. I have chosen the second movement called Marcia funebre: Adagio assai. This movement is slow and dominated by funeral marches. I chose it because personally, I like slow, ballad-style songs. 2. The dominating emotion was sorrow. This type of music invokes melancholy as they are typically played in funerals (Martin & Jacobus, 2019). They can make the listeners feel the pain and at the same time can calm their minds so that they can let go of the pain.
